Pride and Prejudice Notes

 Pride and Prejudice Notes
Pretty much my train of thought as i was reading, excuse the lack of structure and bad spelling at times
•pov is third person knowing?
•mr. And mrs. Bennet start off with dialogue to introduce characters but direct characterization at end of chapter
•5 daughters, Lizzy= mr. Bennett's fave(quickness, second to oldest, 21), jane(oldest, 23, and pretty), Lydia (youngest), Mary(middle, likes to read), Catherine(Kitty, next to Lydia)
•mr. Bingley- new guy in town, rich, mrs. Bennet wants her girls to marry him
•mrs. Bennet insisted mr. To visit Bingley
•*the characters seem to be know-it-alls
•Bingley came to longbourn to see daughters
•Bingley went to London to pick up two sisters, one brotherinlaw, one friend.
•direct char of Bingley
•direct char of mr. Darcy: fine, tall, handsomer than Bingley, money; proud, unable to be compared to Bingley
•at the ball he didn't think any of the girls were worth his time. Lizzy didn't care and he danced with Jane twice

•Jane sees the work as good and can find fault in no one
•ostentation- pretentious and vulgar display having to do with wealth
•Darcy and Bingley: their relationship worked well, Darcy the superior- he was clever, haughty, reserved,&fastidious
•fastidious- concerned an attentive to matters of detail
•*people are judgmental and need to know opinions of others
•sir William Lucas, neighbor to bennets, a knight
•Lucas family: oldest daughter- lizzy's BFF (charlotte)  talked with Mary, mrs. Bennet, and Liz abou the ball
•pride(by Mary) common failing, human nature probe to it, pride v. vanity
•Jane like bingely, Liz can tell, but she won't show it, charlotte  and Lizzy talk about them
•Darcy likes Lizzy after not thinking she was anything at all
•at the ball Darcy wants to be closer to Lizzy. He talked to her a bit, she doesn't like him and refused to dance; Darcy tells Bingley that he likes her
•Jane is sick at the bingleys house and Eliza is there too
•while Jane is sick, bingleys company talks about Liz behind her back. Bingley, his sisters, and Darcy talk about attributes of "accomplished women"- books
•* social class influences thoughts of others
•visited from the bennet women. Mrs. Bennet too concerned with having her daughters married that she acts out of her place
•Darcy and Lizzy, little talk
•cousin Collins is to inherit longbourn. Mrs. Is sad bc all she cares about is her daughters marrying and living somewhere nice. He gives compliments unnecessarily, indirect char is his dialogue, then direct char through Lizzy and narrator
•Collins wants to marry Elizabeth when he sees bingley and Jane are together(both get the house)
•Elizabeth kinda like Wickham(in militia)
•wickham was mr. Darcy's father's favorite between the two
•Elizabeth accidentally agrees to dance with Darcy at the ball
•Jane always not judging and open minded
•pride-Darcy/prejudice pg. 81
•Collins asks Lizzy to marry him but she says no
•Her father agrees but mother doesn't
•Collins takes away the request but gives her cold shoulder
•She sees wickham and still likes him
•Jane gets letter saying bingely has left and to marry Darcy's sis but Lizzy gets that it's just to make Jane think and Caroline wants Darcy
•Miss Lucas and Collins together, but kinda secretly. She doesn't love him but knows marriage is main goal in life
•Bingely gone to please others
•Jane- is hurt but doesnt blane anyone/see bad Lizzy- more if the world she sees, more dissatisfied and changing people. Lizzy and Jane are like foil characters
•Mrs. Gardiner is sister in law of mrs. Bennett. She was close to two oldest. Advised lizzy to stay away from wickham. Took Jane to visit in London
•Jane sees what's really gone on
•Lizzy invited by Gardiner to travel during summer
•*everything is about class an money and social rules saying who and who can be together
•Darcy and fitzwilliam cousins, Charlotte can tell they both like Lizzy
•Lizzy pissed at Darcy for being the one to break up Jane and bingely
•Then Darcy says he loves her and proposes
•Oh shiz, they're arguing, Liz explaining to him what she thinks about him- not good. He feels this way 💞<3 <3 even though she is well below him in society
•Woah, he wanted to marry her even though he broke up his best friend for the exact same reasons- his pride was to blame, too
•Darcy gave Elizabeth a letter explaining the breakup- he thought Jane didn't like Bingley- he states the whole real story behind wickham(who lied)
•"Prejudice against anything he might say"
•*people aren't who they appear to be
•Lizzy is trying to figure the letter
•Sees how she was prejudice and wrong about Darcy and Wickham in opposite ways
•(I'm going to be very sad if she starts to like him and he doesn't like her back)
•She has mixed feelings about Darcy has letter almost memorized, but he left lady Catherine's house
•"One has got all the goodness, the other the appearance of it" Liz tells Jane about the letter, the second half
•Liz went with her aunt and uncle to visit Darcy's house. She was so intrigued and saw how good of a person he really was. Then he showed up which was awkward and she felt awful about herself
•They see each other again and walk, he wants her to meet his sister
•Darcy, Georgiana, and Bingley come visit Lizzy and her aunt and uncle. They can tell he is in love with her
•Jane writes that Lydia eloped with wickham who we hear from colonial Forster that he had no intention of. Lizzy is a little frantic then Darcy comes to visit then the three leave to longbourn
•Sanguine- positive in a bad situation
•Wickham was in debt to everyone in town and people hated him, they said they never trusted his kindness- cover up for being duped. People changed from hating Darcy
•Collins the little tattle tale told lady Catherine- shame to family
•Lydia found, she and wickham to be married, uncle gardiner paid debts
•Fortnight- two week period
•Mr. Bennet not giving money to the wedding or letting them to longbourn
•Lizzy now sees that Darcy and her would've been the perfect match
•Connubial- having to do with marriage
•Darcy was the one who actually found them and paid, no one was supposed to know
•"Her heart did whisper that he had done it for her" awww💘<3 
•Bingley and Darcy came to visit at longbourn. It was kinda awkward but Jane and Bingley still liked ea/o but there was nothing between Darcy and Lizzy
•*why doesn't she ever tell him her feelings? Is it not the thing to do in this society for the girl to speak up? Do the men always have to initiate the contact?
•The two came to dinner at longbourn
•Alacrity- brisk and cheerful readiness
•Jane and Bingley engaged(the author doesn't directly mention it but it is strongly implied by everyone's actions)
•Panegyrics- public speech/text of praise
•Ahh! Lady Catherine came to longbourn very rudely then told Lizzy that she heard she and Darcy were to be engaged soon! LC is pissed and Lizzy is a bit sassy. Very heavy convo. Lizzy's first outward mention of wanting to marry Darcy and how it would go against the norm( I wonder if her father overheard)
•Letter from Collins about seeing that Darcy might propose and warning about LC. Lizzy still doesn't share her true feelings about him to her father.
•When Darcy came with Bingley he and Elizabeth went on a walk. She started the convo and they recalled their whole relationship and their feelings about each subject and as a whole. They love each other and balance one another. They're basically engaged
•Returning to everyone they're silent about the matter
•So they decide to marry but breaking it to the family who basically hate him still is an obstacle
•When she talks to her parents they're so opposite. Her father is concerned about her happiness but her mother cares about her wealth and material things
•Awww they're so happy😍
•Everyone's adjusted to the recent marriages and there've been slight character shifts in the denouement
•Especially like how the end gives credit to the Gardiners for bringing them together 💖
